Reciprocal LinkingBefore deciding to exchange links with another site, here are the minimum requirements I would seek:
- Link to the Links page on the Home page
- The links page actually resides in the same domain as the Home page. Simply check the URL in the address window and the page should be an extension of the site's domain. For instance, the site is xyzcompany.com and their links page is xyzcompany.com/links.htm and not linkfarm.com/xyzcompany.htm.
- Make sure that there is no objectionable content. That is content that is not only objectionable to you, but more importantly, your visitors. Maybe you personally like bullfighting, however it's doubtful that many of your visitors will.
- Make sure the content is at least somewhat related to your site. Don't be afraid of competitors.
- Check to see how the other site will list you. You want a category or at least an alphabetical listing. If it's just a bunch of links in no particular order, I would pass. If there are more than fifty links on anyone of their pages, I would opt not to exchange with them. That many links tend to say "link farm" to the search engines.
- Be sure that the link you post to their site actually goes to their Home page and that their Home page is not simply a gateway to some other site, which may not be satisfactory. Continued>>>
